Iran Third at Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished in third place at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) which were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Iranian sportsmen and sportswomen claimed 36 gold, 23 silver and 59 bronze medals.

The host nation, Turkmenistan, topped the medal tally with 89 gold, 70 silver and 86 bronze medals.

China placed second in the standings with 42 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze.

Olympic Council of Asia president Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah offered his thanks to Turkmenistan president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow for hosting a fantastic Games, and he also took time to thank the hundreds of journalists who covered the sports with 65 participating countries.

"The world has come to Ashgabat, and you have taken Ashgabat to the world," said Al Sabah. "Mr. President, this has been an incredible journey. Thank you for inviting us to Ashgabat. This is the end of the Games, but not the end of our friendship and partnership."

The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games kicked off in Turkmenistan’s capital last Saturday.

More than 6,000 athletes and team officials represented 65 countries in the games.
