French Diplomat Lauds Iran’s Major Role in Region
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A high-ranking French diplomat praised Iran’s major role in the Middle East region and called for closer cooperation between the Western European country and the Islamic Republic in all political and economic areas.
Speaking at a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to France Abolqasem Delfi in Paris on Thursday, Emmanuel Bonne pointed to the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said protecting the agreement and developing Tehran-Paris economic ties are among the top priorities of the French foreign policy.
The diplomat further hailed Iran’s strong role in the region and said cooperation between the two countries in line with efforts to boost regional stability is of high importance.
Delfi, for his part, hailed bilateral relations between Iran and France as growing and stressing the need to implement agreements reached during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to France in January 2017, including the roadmap for promoting Tehran-Paris cooperation.
The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.
The comprehensive nuclear deal terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
However, Iranian officials have complained about the failure of the other side, especially the US, to fully implement the accord, as Iran still has problems in its banking transactions with other countries.
