Iraqi Commander Lauds Iran’s Role in Fall of Daesh
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary General of Iraq’s Badr Organization Hadi al-Ameri praised Iran for supporting the Arab country’s anti-terrorism campaign and said if it had not been for the Islamic Republic’s help, Baghdad would have fallen to the hands of the Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group.
Speaking to Alforat TV channel, Ameri hailed Tehran’s unwavering support for Baghdad and said Iranian military advisers sided with Iraqi forces in coordination with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
“If it had not been for the Islamic Republic’s support, Baghdad would have collapsed,” the commander said.
He also pointed to the fall of the Daesh terrorist group in Iraq and said the end of military operations against the terror group does not mean that it no longer exists because there are some inactive terror cells in Iraq that should be eliminated.
“After military action, our mission is to engage in intelligence activities to find the elements of Daesh and eliminate them…,” he added.
The self-proclaimed caliphate of Daesh collapsed in Syria and Iraq after Syrian forces and their allies managed to recapture Al-Bukamal, the terror group’s last stronghold.
In recent years, the Middle East region has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh, which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria are among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
