Iran Congratulates Georgia on Independence Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Georgia on its Independence Day, hoping for closer ties between the two countries.

In a letter to Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Monday, Rouhani congratulated the Caucasus nation on its Independence Day.

“I am confident that we would witness a development of bilateral relations considering the deep historical and cultural record (of ties) and the political will of the two countries’ leaders,” Rouhani the president. 

Independence Day is an annual public holiday in Georgia observed on May 26, marking the adoption of the Act of Independence in 1918.

In April 2017, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif travelled to Georgia with a delegation of business people for high-profile meetings and talks on closer economic cooperation between Tehran and Tbilisi.
