Iran One of Leaders in Pool D, Cuba Coach Coffigny Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Cuba coach Niclas Coffigny said it’s not a surprise losing to Iran since they are one the leaders in Pool D of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.

Cuba lost to Iran 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19) in Pool D of the tournament in Varna, Bulgaria on Saturday.

“We missed our chance in the match against Iran. In the first set we proved that we are able to play successfully against such a strong team,” Coffigny said in the post-match news conference.

“As I said, Iranian squad is very well prepared and it is not a surprise that they are one of the leaders in our pool. The tournament is not finished yet. It is going to be great to win over Bulgaria (on Sunday),”

Roamy Alonso, player of Cuba, also said, “We showed a different face of us. We started powerfully, dominated on the court and we won the first set easily. Unfortunately, we could not keep this high level in the following parts. Iran found its rhythm of playing right from the start of the second set. They were better than us till the end. We are still motivated and we are looking forward to facing Bulgaria.”
