Iran Marches in Parade of Nations: 2024 Olympics

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Parade of Nations in the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony took place on Friday evening on the Seine river in Paris, France.

Table tennis player Neda Shahsavari and gymnast Mahdi Olfati served as Team Iran’s flagbearers.

The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics was an unprecedented and ambitious show with up to 7,000 competitors parading down the River Seine past the historic monuments of the French capital.

For the first time in the Olympic history, the opening ceremony took place outside the main stadium, with some 300,000 people watching in person from specially built stands, on the river banks, and another 200,000 from overlooking balconies and apartments.

Eighty-five boats set sail from beneath the Austerlitz Bridge, each carrying athletes from 204 countries and the Refugee Olympic Team under the artistic direction of French director and actor Thomas Jolly.

Iran has sent 40 athletes to the Games.
