Iraqi Police Apprehend 9 Daesh Members in Mosul
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi police forces arrested nine Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) militants during security operations in Mosul city, the interior ministry’s spokesman was quoted as saying.
“Forces from Nineveh police apprehended nine members of Daesh, who are wanted on terror charges, in Mosul’s eastern side,” Maj. Gen. Saad Maan told Alghad Press website on Monday.
He added the arrests were made in al-Zahraa, al-Khadraa and al-Dawanem districts in Mosul’s eastern side.
Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced in July 2017 liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from Daesh militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.
Baghdad declared the collapse of Daesh in Iraq last November with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the terror group’s last bastion in the country.
