Rare Winter Tornado Hit Eastern Ohio (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A tornado with winds measuring around 100 mph touched down Tuesday and traveled for 4 and a half miles near Cortland, Ohio in Trumbull County.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s tornado was the seventh tornado ever recorded in Ohio during the month of January.
It is very uncommon for tornadoes to occur in this part of country during January. Only six tornadoes have been reported in January across Ohio between 1950 and 2018, Weather Channel reported.
Parts of the South are at the most for tornadoes in January. This is due to the region's close proximity to Gulf of Mexico moisture, which gets squashed southward during the winter.
