Zarif Highlights 40 Years of US Failure to Destabilize Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Washington has failed to destabilize Iran in the past forty years through “blood and treasure”, calling on President Donald Trump to “rethink failed US policy”.
"40 Years of Failure to accept that Iranians will never return to submission. 40 Years of Failure to adjust US policy to reality. 40 Years of Failure to destabilize Iran through blood & treasure,” Zarif said in a message posted on his Twitter account early on Tuesday.
He added, “After 40 yrs of wrong choices, time for @realDonaldTrump to rethink failed US policy.”
It came after Trump took to the Twitter to undermine the 40th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution on Monday, which was celebrated by millions of Iranians across the country.
Posting two similar tweets in Persian and English, the US president alleged that the Islamic Republic had, over the four decades that had followed the victory, not brought about anything but “corruption, repression, terror.” Trump concluded that Tehran had “produced only failure” ever since.
In another tweet on Monday, Zarif hailed the Iranian nation's resistance in the face of US pressure and said, "I bow in admiration to Iran's resilient people who— despite hardships & grievances— today poured into streets by the millions to mark 40th anniv of their Islamic Revolution, which some in the US wished would never come. US should take note: REAL Iranians never succumb to diktats".
Iranian people from different walks of life attended nationwide demonstrations on Monday in celebration of the 40th anniversary of victory of the 1979 revolution which ended six decades of Pahlavi monarchy and founded the Islamic Republic in the country.
The crowd of demonstrators in the rallies paid tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, under whose leadership the revolutionary movements triumphed over the despotic regime of Pahlavi on February 11, 1979.
