Iran’s Zarif Holds Meetings with MSC Participants

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with a number of political and international figures attending the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

In one of the gatherings on the sidelines of the MSC on Saturday, the Iranian foreign minister met top members of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders working together for peace, justice and human rights.

Zarif had talks with Mary Robinson, chair of The Elders and the first woman President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and with Lakhdar Brahimi, the former Algerian freedom fighter, foreign minister, conflict mediator and UN diplomat.

They discussed major regional and international developments.

In a separate get-together, Zarif held talks with the security advisor of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Zarif further held a meeting with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan to discuss Tehran-Yerevan ties in the economic, trade, banking, energy and transportation sectors. They also talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other issues of mutual interest.

In another meeting, the top Iranian diplomat and Henrietta Holsman Fore, the CEO of the United Nations Children's Fund, discussed the course of cooperation between Iran and UNICEF.

Over 100 officials as well as political, security, and international figures including presidents, foreign and defense ministers, and heads of international organizations are participating in this year’s security conference in Munich.
