Asian Weightlifting Championships: Iran’s Beiralvand, Hoghoughi Win Gold, Silver

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Reza Beiralvand and Amir Hoghoughi claimed gold and silver medal respectively at the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Friday.

World Championships bronze medalist Beiralvand struck gold in the men's 102kg event, topping the standings in the snatch, clean and jerk and overall.

Beiralvand lifted 173kg in the snatch and 216kg to end on a total of 389kg.

Beiralvand's compatriot Hoghoughi was second overall on 384kg and Japan's Taro Tanaka claimed bronze on 364kg.

Over 460 athletes from 29 countries and regions, including China, Japan, South Korea, India and Iran are participating at the competition, which started April 17 and will last until April 29.

The 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships are being held in Ningbo, China. It’s the 48th men's and 29th women's championship.
