Blasts Hit Oil Tankers in Sea of Oman; Iran Dispatches Rescue Vessel
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two successive blasts hit two large oil tankers in the Sea of Oman on Thursday morning, media reports said.
The tankers had sent distress calls to the sea’s littoral states following the explosions, according to local Pakistani sources.
Also, Reuters identified the tankers as the Marshal Islands-flagged Front Altair and the Panama-flagged Kokuka Courageous.
Meantime, Bloomberg reported that Brent oil crude had jumped as much as 4.5% and was trading at $61.67 a barrel at 10:55 a.m. in Dubai following the incident.
According to local reports, Iran has dispatched an advanced Search and Rescue (SAR) vessel, Naji 10, to the Sea of Oman for relief and rescue operations.
The reports added that the vessel has arrived at the scene where the damaged tankers are standing.
