Iran Opens Largest Mask Factory in Southwest Asia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The opening of Southwest Asia’s largest factory producing face masks in Iran has obviated the country’s need for the import of the medical product, an official said.

In a ceremony on Tuesday, director of the Headquarters for Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order inaugurated the mask factory, which he said is the largest of its kind in Southwest Asia.

Mohammad Mokhber said a number of machines in the factory have been imported from abroad, while the other mask producing equipment has been manufactured by domestic knowledge-based companies.

The factory has been set up during one month, he noted, adding that the plant has the capacity to produce 4 million masks per month.

The coming into operation of the large factory would obviate Iran’s need for imports, according to Mokhber.

He said the face masks will not be exported until the domestic needs are fully supplied.

The Headquarters for Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order will be delivering all of the masks produced by the new factory to the Health Ministry and will not have any role in the distribution of the products, the official added.
