Iran Reports 2,886 New Coronavirus Cases
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Health Ministry reported 2,886 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the number of cases to more than 167,000.
Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpoor said at a press conference on Friday that the number of people tested positive for the coronavirus across Iran has risen to 167,156 following the detection of 2,886 new cases since Thursday noon.
COVID-19 has taken the lives of 63 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the country to 8,134, he said.
So far, 129,741 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease and have been discharged from the hospital, according to Jahanpoor.
He added that more than 1.4 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran until now.
The spokesman went on to say that the coronavirus situation is critical in eight provinces of the country, with the southwestern province of Khuzestan being still in the red state.
More than 6.7 million people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll is around 394,000.
