Iran, Japan Discuss Coronavirus Battle

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ranking diplomats from Iran and Japan discussed a range of issues vie video conferencing, including joint action against the coronavirus pandemic.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi and Japan’s Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Mori held talks on a range of issues on Saturday.

The two diplomats discussed bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as cooperation between the two countries in the fight against the coronavirus.

They also stressed the need to continue consultations and employ the potential of good relations between the two countries for mutual cooperation.

Japan has donated Avigan (Favipiravir) drug to Iran to help treat the patients with acute COVID-19 infection, after medical authorities in China verified that the Japanese drug is effective in coronavirus patients.

In a telephone conversation with his Japanese counterpart in March, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised the Japanese government and nation for supporting the Iranian nation in the fight against the coronavirus.
