Iraq’s PUM Forces Thwart Major Daesh Attack in Salahuddin
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Fighters from Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), known as Hashd al-Sha’abi, repelled a major attack by Daesh terrorists in north-central Salahuddin province.
Heavy clashes erupted between PMU forces and Daesh militants in the area if al-Zalaya in southern Tikrit on Saturday evening, Iraqi media reported.
The terrorists attempted to sneak into the areas under the control of the Iraqi military but were pushed back by Hash al-Sha’abi forces.
The report added that scores of the militants were killed and injured during the counterattack.
During the past few days, comprehensive security operations were launched on the northern and eastern outskirts of Diyala, with Kirkuk and Salahuddin, as well as other operations between Salahuddin and Kirkuk to purge those areas of Daesh hotspots and dens.
