Rouhani: Iran, Turkey Should Boost Ties against US Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for closer cooperation with Turkey in order to deal with the sanctions the US has imposed on the Iranian nation.

In a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, Rouhani decried the US for imposing cruel sanctions on the Iranian nation, saying, “In such conditions, the friendly and neighboring countries like Iran and Turkey should further enhance their relations and cooperation.”

He also congratulated the Turkish government and people on Eid al-Adha and expressed hope that the two countries would continue to work together in the fight against the coronavirus.

He further expressed hope that with the efforts and cooperation of all countries in the region, stability and peace would prevail throughout the West Asia region.

In turn, Erdogan offered congratulations on the Eid al-Adha and expressed hope that it would bring blessings for the people of the two countries and for all Muslims around the world.

Praising the successful efforts of the Iranian government and people in the fight against COVID-19, the Turkish president stressed the need to develop cooperation and exchange experiences in this regard, IFP reported.

Referring to the need to develop trade and economic relations between Iran and Turkey and accelerate trade exchanges in accordance with health protocols, he hoped that a meeting of the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation between the two countries would be held in the near future.
