Commander: Border Security Iran’s Red Line
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The security of Iran’s border regions and residents is a red line for the Army Ground Force, a senior commander said.
Speaking to reporters after visiting border areas in the Iranian province of East Azarbaijan, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari said the security and calm in the country’s border regions is a red line for his forces.
“We cannot tolerate any threat to the security of Iranian border residents,” he added.
The Army would by no means allow anybody to cross the Islamic Republic’s red lines, the general underlined, saying the Ground Force troops have been deployed to the northwestern border areas to protect the Iranian territories amid the escalation of armed clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
There is no threat to the northwestern borders, he noted, expressing hope that Baku and Yerevan would respect the international law, protect the international boundaries, and settle the disputes at the negotiating table.
In remarks on Wednesday, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Ground Force warned the neighboring states engaged in a war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region that Iran would not tolerate any threat to the security of its border regions and residents.
Last week, Iran’s Foreign Ministry warned the warring parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that Tehran will not remain indifferent if the shells fired in the fighting continue to hit Iranian territories.
