We Could Have Defeated Persepolis, Says Cazorla
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Al-Sadd midfielder Santi Cazorla believes that they could have defeated Persepolis in the 2020 AFC Champions League group stage.
The Qatari team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Iran’s Persepolis in Doha and failed to advance to the next stage.
“Our goal was to reach the final, particularly as the games were being hosted in Doha. However, the fact that we played successive games in such a short period made it difficult for all of us,” Cazorla said in an interview with FIFA.
“I think we did well in the group stage, and the Persepolis game was very close. We created many chances but unfortunately didn’t capitalize on them and ultimately lost due to a lapse in concentration on that corner kick,” he added.
“Looking back, we’re still frustrated by the result, but it’s forcing us to improve. We’ve made the Amir Cup final, and we’re top of the Qatar Stars League. We need to maintain this momentum and try again for the AFC Champions League in 2021,” Cazorla stated.
