Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Surpasses 40,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran has exceeded 40,000, while more than 546,000 positive cases have recovered from the disease so far.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Friday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 461 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 40,582.
The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 738,322 after the detection of 11,737 new cases since yesterday, she added.
Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 2,967 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.
At least 546,642 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,630 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
The spokeswoman also said more than 5,424,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 52.7 million and the death toll has surpassed 1,290,000.
