UN: 233,000 Killed in Saudi-Led War on Yemen in Last 6 Years
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The ongoing Saudi-led war against Yemen has claimed 233,000 lives over the last six years, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
In a Tuesday report about the situation in the war-torn country, the UNOCHA said, "This large number is unfortunate and unacceptable."
At the same time, it stressed that these people have lost their lives since the start of the war in Yemen either directly due to the war or for reasons related to it.
Yemen has reached a critical point and there is an urgent need for a ceasefire now, the UNOCHA said.
Saudi Arabia and a coalition of its vassal states launched the war on Yemen in March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall a Riyadh-backed former regime.
The coalition has, however, achieved none of its goals thanks to stiff resistance by the Ansarullah-led Yemeni army.
The Saudi military aggression, coupled with a naval blockade, has killed hundreds of thousands of people and plunged Yemen into what the UN says the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
