Spokesman Dismisses US Allegation of Iran’s Role in Iraq Embassy Attack
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson rejected the accusations made by the US president and state secretary that Iran has been involved in a recent rocket attack on the American embassy in Baghdad.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran dismisses and condemns the allegations raised by Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo against Iran after the rocket attack on the US embassy in Iraq.
Asked about the comments from leader of Iraq’s Sadrist Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, who has called on Iran and the US to keep Iraq away from their strife, the spokesman said Iran denounces any attack on diplomatic sites and residential areas, pointing to the attacks on Iran’s diplomatic buildings in the past.
The context and timing of the recent US statements and tweets against Iran are suspicious and mischievous, Khatibzadeh said, stressing that Iran does not look for tension, protects its national interests vigorously, and makes it clear that the US will be held accountable for any wrong move.
Iran has never sought to solve its problems with the US in another country, he underlined, noting that the US, conversely, has turned neighboring countries into “bases of insecurity” against Iran.
Iran has repeatedly called on neighboring and friendly countries to fulfill their duties against the White House’s rogue polices, the spokesman went on to say.
