TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least 16 Palestinians were injured after Israeli occupation forces used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a protest against Israeli plans to build a new settlement outpost in the West Bank.

The protest was held against Israeli settlements in Deir Jarir, near Ramallah city.

The Israeli army used a drone to throw dozens of tear gas canisters at the protesters.

The protesters set alight a tire wall before Israeli forces brutally dispersed the protest, in the village of Deir Jarir, northeast of Ramallah, on Friday.

The protest also coincided for the 56th anniversary of the launch of the contemporary Palestinian Revolution and Fatah Movement.

On December 23, Israeli settlers began establishing a settlement outpost in the Sharafat mountain area in the village of Deir Jarir by installing equipment and tents on the top of the mountain under the protection of the Israeli armed forces.

Over 400,000 Israeli settlers currently live in more than 250 illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The area has been a site of recurrent attacks by Israeli occupation forces over the past few months. Palestinians have been taking part in weekly protests and non-violent events to protest against Israeli plans to create more settlements in the disputed area.

International law views both the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds as "occupied territories" and considers all Israeli settlement-building activities there as illegal.
