TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds gathered near Baghdad airport on the anniversary of the assassination of Iranian Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi commander of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a US drone attack last year.

Mourners joined the march on the highway leading to the Baghdad airport Saturday evening where the strike that martyred the two commanders took place.

Posters of the Iraqi and Iranian martyrs adorned both sides of the road.

Photos of General Soleimani and al-Muhandis were seen at the scene of the bombing, as mourners lit candles and remembered the martyrs of resistance during prayers.

The US assassinated General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), along with  al-Muhandis, and their companions by targeting their vehicles outside Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

The act of terror was carried out under the direction of US President Donald Trump, with the Pentagon taking responsibility for the strike.
