Poorshab, Ganjzadeh Win Gold at Karate-1 Premier League

TEHRAN (Tasnim)– Iran’s Zabihollah Poorshab and Sajad Ganjzadeh seized two gold medals on the final day of the Karate-1 Premier League event in Istanbul as the sport hosted its first major international competition in a year.

Poorshab won a gold after Daniyar Yuldashev of Kazakhstan withdrew from the competition in the final match of the Male Kumite -84kg due to an injury.

Ganjzadeh, a Grand Winner and current number two in the sport’s world rankings, comfortably beat Ryzvan Talibov of Ukraine 7-0, with a mawashi geri kick the highlight of a dominant display in the Male Kumite +84kg category final.

Rozita Alipour snatched a silver medal at the Female Kumite -61Kg after pulling out of the match against world champion Jovana Prekovic of Serbia due to an injury.

Sara Bahmanyar won a bronze by beating Ukraine’s Kateryna Krayva 4-0 in the Female Kumite -50 Kg.

Ali Asghar Asiabari also beat Turkey’s Erman Eltumur 3-0 in the bronze medal match of the Male Kumite -75 Kg.

The second round of the Karate 1-Premier League season is scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal from April 30 to May 2.
