MP Urges Deletion of Recordings of Iran Nuclear Sites as IAEA Misses Deadline
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A lawmaker emphasized that Iran must delete the data recorded during the past three months at its nuclear sites as an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency has expired without any breakthrough in the talks for the revival of the JCPOA.
In comments at a parliamentary session on Sunday, member of the Parliament’s presiding board Alireza Salimi said the IAEA has missed a three-month deadline after a February agreement with Tehran.
Iran must now carry out the Parliament’s law on 'Strategic Action’ and delete the data recorded at the country’s nuclear sites, he underlined.
The Iranian MPs had already warned the Western parties that if they fail to honor their JCPOA commitments by a deadline of May 24, Iran will carry out the ‘Strategic Action’ on lifting the sanctions and safeguarding national interests, ratified by the Parliament in October 2020.
The lawmakers insist that Iran should cease the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
According to a technical agreement with the IAEA, Iran has been recording information offline at its nuclear sites, but had warned that a lack of breakthrough in the Vienna negotiations would mean that the UN nuclear agency will have no access to the information, the cameras will be turned off, and the data will be deleted.
A joint statement released by the IAEA following its director general’s February visit to Tehran declared that Iran will stop its voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol and will deny IAEA inspectors access to its nuclear facilities beyond the Safeguards Agreement as of February 23, 2021 for three months.
