Iran Army Chief Orders Relief for Southeastern Residents As Pandemic Worsens

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of the Iranian Army ordered acceleration of efforts to provide emergency relief to the residents of the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, where people are facing drought coupled with a surge in the coronavirus pandemic.

In an order issued on Tuesday, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi urged the Army units to step up efforts in helping the residents of Sistan and Balouchestan following the outbreak of the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Iran and the drought in the province.

The Army forces have been ordered to assist the residents of the large border province in the provision of fresh water.

The Army units have already mobilized efforts to set up field hospitals in Sistan and Balouchestan, which suffers from underdeveloped infrastructures.

The arid province has been hit the hardest in Iran after the outbreak of a new variant of the coronavirus, known as Delta.
