New COVID Cases, Death Toll Rising in Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of new coronavirus cases detected in Iran has soared to above 23,000 and the daily deaths have surpassed 180 as the country is struggling with the fifth wave of the pandemic after the spread of the Delta variant.
Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Wednesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 3,440,000 after the detection of 23,371 new cases since yesterday.
Sima Sadat Lari said the pandemic has claimed 184 lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 86,391.
More than 3,069,900 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.
Among those undergoing treatment at present, 3,963 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.
The spokeswoman also said more than 24.74 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 5.33 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 188 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.06 million.
