President Orders Preparation of Report on Iran’s Economic Situation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi assigned the Central Bank and the Planning and Budget Organization to prepare a diagnostic report on the country’s economic conditions for proper decision-making.

In comments at a Sunday meeting of the Administration’s Economic Coordination Headquarters, Raisi described a detailed recognition of the economic circumstances as the basis for appropriate decisions.

The new president called on the Central Bank of Iran and the Planning and Budget Organization to prepare a “diagnostic report” about the latest economic conditions in Iran to pave the way for making the right decisions on the basis of correct indices.

Emphasizing the necessity for budget reform, Raisi said such a reform will be one of his administration’s top priorities.

The national budget must be set in a factual and operational manner, he underlined.

The president expressed disagreement about a difference between the inflation rate presented by the Central Bank of Iran and the rate announced by the Statistical Center of Iran, saying such variance is in violation of the rights of people.

Raisi, the former Judiciary Chief of Iran, won the June 18 presidential election by a landslide.

In comments in June, former president Hassan Rouhani said his successor would have a much easier job in running the country, since his cabinet has handled the situation under an unprecedented economic war and while facing the problems in the import of medicine and foodstuff.

He also noted that his administration has offered a general outlook of the country’s economy to its successor and has shared experiences with the next administration’s officials.
