Coronavirus Cases in Iran Close to 6 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 6,000,000, the Health Ministry said.

The Health Ministry announced on Monday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 5,996,100 after the detection of 8,341 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,164 patients have been admitted to the hospital, it added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,669 coronavirus patients are being kept in the intensive care units because of more severe infection, it said.

The ministry further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 127,439, saying the disease has taken the lives of 140 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 5,615,400 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

The ministry also said over 55.31 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine, while over 39.46 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world is about to hit 250 million and the death toll exceeds 5.06 million.
