JCPOA Joint Commission Convenes in Vienna

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Diplomats representing Iran and the P4+1 held a meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission in Austria on Friday amid the seventh round of negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and removal of the sanctions against Tehran.

While delegations from Iran, Russia, China, the UK, France and Germany have been holding intensive talks in Vienna since Monday to weigh plans to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and lift the sanctions on Iran, a plenary meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission was held in the Austrian capital on Friday afternoon.

Iran’s top negotiator and Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri had held a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service for Political Affairs Enrique Mora ahead of the JCPOA Joint Commission session.

Envoys from Iran and the P4+1 group of countries began on Monday the seventh round of the talks in the Austrian capital to discuss ways for the removal of US sanctions and reviving the JCPOA.

Former US president Donald Trump left the JCPOA in May 2018 and re-imposed the anti-Iran sanctions that the deal had lifted. He also placed additional sanctions on Iran under other pretexts not related to the nuclear case as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign.
