Iran’s Moghanlou Shortlisted for Best Forward of 2021 ACL

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Persepolis striker Shahriyar Moghanlou was shortlisted for the best forward of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Using a statistics-based approach, the-afc.com has selected 10 of the star performers from the continental competition as it looks to complete the All-Star XI.

Finalists in 2018 and 2020, Persepolis may not have lived up to recent campaigns but it was on fine form in the group stage where it won five from six matches and striker Moghanlou performed excellently in his first AFC Champions League appearance.

A double against Al-Rayyan helped secure all three points on Matchday Two while another against the same opposition on Matchday Six capped off a lovely team move as the Iranian side advanced to the knockout rounds as group winners.

Moghanlou, who currently plays at Sepahan, will have to compete with Michael Olunga (Al-Duhail SC), Gustavo (Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors), Bafetimbi Gomis (Al-Hilal SFC), ), Leandro Damiao (Kawasaki Frontale), Dejan Damjanovic (Kitchee SC), Abderrazak Hamdallah (Al-Nassr), Cesinha (Daegu FC), Moussa Marega (Al-Hilal SFC) and Lim Sang-hyub (Pohang Steelers).
