Iran Hopes for Sustainable Regional Peace through Trade Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran expressed hope that closer economic and trade cooperation among regional countries would turn into a model for sustainable peace and security in the region.

In a meeting with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi, held in Muscat on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed satisfaction with the expanding relations with Oman and underlined the need to continue meetings between officials of the two countries for talks over various political, economic and cultural issues.

He also stressed the need to launch specialized committees, including the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.

Congratulating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries, Amirabdollahian emphasized that the popular and cultural ties between Iran and Oman are rooted in history and the two countries have been able to forge deep-rooted and strong cooperation.

The Iranian foreign minister then appreciated Oman's attitude towards regional issues based on dialogue and cooperation and described it as the only way to solve problems of the region, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Amirabdollahian further expressed satisfaction with the expansion of trade cooperation between Iran and Oman, including the increased trade.

He further expressed hope that economic cooperation between the countries of the region would serve as a model for maintaining peace and security in the region.

For his part, the Omani foreign minister referred to Iran's economic capabilities and its human resources, stressing the importance of promoting bilateral cooperation and utilizing the economic potential of the region.

The two foreign ministers finally underlined the need for continuing negotiations over key regional issues.
