Iranian Speaker Sympathizes with Turkey, Syria over Tragic Earthquake
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf offered his deepest sympathy to the Turkish and Syrian people over the casualties of a powerful earthquake that rocked southeast Turkey and northern Syria early on Monday.
In comments at a meeting of the Parliament this morning, Qalibaf expressed sympathy to Turkey and Syria on behalf of the Iranian nation on the severe earthquake.
The speaker offered condolences to the Muslim nations of Turkey and Syria on the loss of lives.
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake knocked down multiple buildings in southeast Turkey and northern Syria in the early hours of Monday.
At least 286 deaths were reported in Turkey, while at least 230 people have died in Syria so far.
Rescue teams are carrying out a frantic search for survivors trapped under tangles of metal and chunks of concrete in cities and towns across Turkey and Syria.
