Iran Strongly Condemns Swedish Parliament's Measure against IRGC
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a strong condemnation of the Swedish parliament’s action targeting the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Kanaani emphasized the need for the Swedish government to exercise wisdom and insight and not to sacrifice the national interests of Sweden and the longstanding relations between the two countries for the sake of terrorists and the apartheid Zionist regime, as well as enemies holding Iranian identity documents.
"The illegal action of the Swedish parliament, influenced by terrorist and rejected elements of the Iranian nation, is an anti-Iranian move that contradicts internationally accepted standards and principles, including equality of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of governments,” Kanaani stated, adding that the move constitutes an encroachment on the sovereignty and national security of Iran.
In response to the irresponsible actions of the Swedish parliament, particularly concerning the IRGC, Kanaani reiterated the significance of the IRGC as an institution of sovereignty derived from the Iranian nation. He emphasized its official and legal identity, which is rooted in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. “Alongside other branches of the armed forces, the IRGC assumes the responsibility of safeguarding the national and border security of the country,” he said.
Furthermore, the spokesperson highlighted the IRGC's historic role in combating international Takfiri terrorism, including groups like Daesh (ISIS or ISIL), over the past decade.
He stressed that the IRGC's contributions have played a crucial role in preserving regional and international peace and security.
Kanaani also emphasized that such a significant role will not be forgotten by the Iranian nation and the people of the region, especially those who have been targeted by evil-minded Takfiri terrorism.
