Ministers Push for Expansion of Iran-Egypt Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior diplomats from Iran and Egypt weighed plans to enhance relations between Tehran and Cairo, hailing the positive developments in interaction between the two Muslim nations.
As part of his ongoing diplomatic consultations over the past two weeks with regional countries regarding the sensitive security situation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Cairo on Thursday.
In the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on the latest regional developments and the growing dangers and concerns arising from the continued crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and Lebanon.
Araqchi highlighted Iran’s principled stance on the need to end the occupation as the root cause of insecurity in the region, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
He also called for intensified and comprehensive efforts by the regional countries to halt the killing and aggression in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
The Iranian minister also stressed the necessity for practical action by the international community to prevent the continued threat to regional stability and security posed by the Zionist regime and to facilitate immediate humanitarian aid to the Palestinian and Lebanese refugees.
The Egyptian foreign minister, for his part, outlined Cairo’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. He emphasized the need for joint efforts by the regional countries and the international community to protect peace, stability, and security in the region and to accelerate and facilitate humanitarian assistance to the oppressed people of Gaza and Lebanon.
The two sides then underscored the shared position of Iran and Egypt on the necessity of stopping the aggression and war against Gaza and Lebanon, preventing the escalation of insecurity and instability in the region, respecting the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all regional countries, and the urgent need to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees in Gaza and Lebanon.
They also acknowledged the positive developments in bilateral interaction between the two countries and agreed to continue the current processes and maintain mutual consultations aimed at expanding bilateral relations.
