Biden to Announce $375 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US President Joe Biden is poised to unveil a new military aid package worth $375 million for Ukraine following discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart at the G7 summit in Japan, according to a Politico report.
Three officials, from the United States and Ukraine, familiar with the talks confirmed the upcoming announcement while speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The aid package will consist of additional artillery shells, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons, which the US and its allies have previously supplied to Kiev.
The news coincides with Biden's indication of supporting the third-party transfer of American F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. He expressed his commitment to train Ukrainian pilots in operating these aircraft during discussions with his G7 counterparts.
Several NATO countries with extensive F-16 experience, such as Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands, have expressed their willingness to participate in the training program. Norway is also considering offering assistance. These nations are currently transitioning to the F-35 and have been selling their older F-16s to third countries, such as Romania, which are eager to upgrade their Soviet-era aircraft.
The Reuters news agency also reported that the United States would also provide Ukraine with additional projectiles for HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems.
