TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi expressed his country’s readiness to finalize an agreement on cooperation with Iran to complete a joint project on the development of the Iranian southeastern port city of Chabahar.

In a telephone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday, Modi expressed satisfaction with the process of bilateral and long-term cooperation between India and Iran.

He also described the joint project of Chabahar Port and its development and transformation into a regional transportation hub as an opportunity for the prosperity of the region, and expressed India’s readiness to finalize the cooperation documents between the two countries in order to complete this project.

The Indian premier further condemned a recent fatal terrorist attack on the shrine of Shah-e Cheragh in Iran’s Shiraz, voicing his sympathy with the government and nation of the Islamic Republic and the families of victims of the attack.

For his part, Raisi thanked the Indian prime minister for his sympathy regarding the terrorist attack in Shiraz.

He also said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran wants to strengthen regional integration and develop economic relations, and in this regard, seeks interaction with all countries of the world, especially Asian countries."

It is important to develop interactions with India, especially in the fields of transit and energy and regional security, Raisi added, his official website reported.

He demanded the development of transportation cooperation, including in the North-South Corridor, and the acceleration of the operationalization of Chabahar Port facilities.

Raisi also described the civilizational and historical background of the two countries as a very good basis for the development of Tehran-New Delhi cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international levels.
