Developing SP Phase 11 Symbol of Iran’s Authority in Economic Field: NIOC Chief

While commemorating “Government Week”, Mohsen Khojastehmehr emphasized that the development of Phase 11 of South Pars Gas Field bore fruit after 20 years of efforts by expert Iranian engineers.

He said is the manifestation of Iran’s authority in the international arena.

Implementation of strategic and important projects and maximal production from joint oil and gas fields are the main mission of the Ministry of Oil and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Khojastehmehr underlined.

He said South Pars is the largest gas field in the world and contains 50 percent of Iran’s gas reserves, adding that 70 percent of the gas produced in the country is extracted from this field.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the NIOC chief pointed to the specifications of Phase 11 and noted that it is located at the zero point of the border with a neighboring country, so oil production in this phase was necessary to begin in the shortest time possible.

Producing oil from this phase was subjected to many ups and downs, including breaches of promises by foreign companies like France’s TOTAL and the UK’s Shell Company in the past 20 years but the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi relied on the talents of domestic engineers and managed to launch this giant oil project in 20 months, he stated.

He went on to say that 56 million cubic meters of gas will be added to the total gas production of the country by the completion of Phase 11 development.

“In addition, one million tons of ethane and one million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will be added to the current production volume.”

This important gas project became operational thanks to the unflinching efforts of expert domestic engineers after 20 years of hiatus and this is a source of pride in the economic field in the international arena, he highlighted.
