Bolstered Tehran-Riyadh Ties to Boost Muslims’ Power: Pezeshkian

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s president-elect, in a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, said strengthening the relations between Tehran and Riyadh will enhance the power of the Islamic world in defending the Palestinian people.

During the phone call, the Saudi Arabian crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, congratulated Iran's president-elect, Massoud Pezeshkian, on his victory in the recent presidential election in Iran.

He termed the development of cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as two important and influential countries in the region, ‘essential’, healing the effective measures that have recently been taken for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in international arenas.

The two sides have ample potential and capabilities to develop their relations in various areas, especially in the cultural, trade and investment fields, he said, voicing hope that the two countries will witness a bright future during the new Iranian administration's term.

He said he is sure the development of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia will be in the interest of the Islamic world, including the issue of Palestine, the Saudi crown prince added.

Iran's president-elect for his part, expressed his gratitude to the Saudi crown prince for his kind sentiments.

Iran and Saudi Arabia resumed relations following a seven-year hiatus under a China-brokered deal in 2023, which saw the two sides re-open diplomatic missions.

Tehran and Riyadh also agreed to implement a security cooperation agreement signed in April 2001 and another accord reached in May 1998 to boost economic, commercial, investment, technical, scientific, cultural, sports, and youth affairs cooperation.
