Iran, FAO to Expand Agricultural Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will enhance their cooperation in the agricultural sector with the aim of increasing agricultural productivity, maintaining sustainability and strengthening food security.

Change in the production method in the country both in the agricultural sector and other sectors is an inevitable necessity given climatic changes.

The water shortage problem is one of the serious threats that jeopardizes the lives of creatures on the Earth to a great extent.

Iran’s traditional agriculture is such that more than 90 percent of water loss in the country occurs in the agricultural sector.

Hence, FAO held the first national conference on “Production Jump Plan in Iran’s Rainfed Fields” aimed at evaluating the achievements of the joint project to increase productivity and streamlining the potentials of rainfed agriculture.

FAO Representative Ad Interim to Iran Yubak Dhoj G C in a message on Saturday emphasized the effective cooperation between FAO and Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture that has diversified and comprehensive results ranging from capacity building to policy development, livestock management and fisheries development.

He stated that these measures significantly strengthened sustainable agricultural methods, improved nutrition and rural livelihood in Iran and paved the way for sustainable agricultural growth and rural development.
