Iran-Turkey Interaction Ensures Regional Stability: Top Security Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian said cooperation between Iran and Turkey will guarantee regional security and stability and fulfill the interests of the two neighbors.

In a meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Ahmadian and Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan talked about the ways to comprehensively expand cooperation between the two countries, especially in the security and economic fields.

Ahmadian pointed to the long history of cooperation between Iran and Turkey, stressing that the relations between the two countries are security-building and stability-building, Nournews reported.

“The development of friendly relations between the two neighboring countries will provide the stable interests of Iran and Turkey,” the Iranian official added.

Ahmadian also expressed hope that Tehran-Ankara relations would be upgraded to the levels desired by the leaders of the two countries.

He then referred to the comments made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with the president of Turkey last year, who said that Turkey's security is Iran's security.

“Iran and Turkey are on the same ship, and the enemies of the two, have clear understanding over this matter, accordingly they are trying to disrupt the process of bilateral cooperation and hinder the synergy of the vast capacities of the two countries,” Ahmadian warned.

Iran and Turkey have been harmed by terrorists who have been armed and equipped with the support of the West and the Zionist regime, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran said, adding, “Fortunately, the countries of the region have come to a common understanding that unstable security is not guaranteed, and it is not sustainable, only local mechanisms and regional cooperation will guarantee stable security in the region.”

Ahmadian emphasized the need to strengthen economic cooperation between Tehran and Ankara, especially in the field of energy and transit, and considered the target of $30 billion for trade exchanges as an easy goal to accomplish.

Highlighting the necessity of cooperation between the two countries in confronting Islamophobia and insults to the Holy Quran, Ahmadian stated, “Iran and Turkey, as the two large countries in the Islamic world, are obliged to fulfill their religious and historical duty to act against the cowardly attack of international Zionist agents against the beliefs of millions of Muslims in the world.”

He then pointed to the developments in the Caucasus region and the opposition of the Islamic Republic of Iran to any geopolitical change in the region, and said that the holding of the 3+3 meeting was an effective measure to resolve misunderstandings and resolve issues between the countries of this region.

For his part, Fidan expressed Turkey's interest in the comprehensive expansion of relations with Iran.

He also expressed hope that a new chapter of bilateral and multilateral cooperation would begin soon.

“In this regard, the two countries must be careful and be alerted of the mischief of the enemies who have targeted the relations between the two countries with their destructive actions, especially with the use of media outlets,” Foreign Minister Fidan said.

Expressing Turkey’s satisfaction with the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Turkish foreign minister hailed Iran as a massive and responsible country in the region and praised its role in the fight against terrorism.
