Iranian Wrestler Goleij Bags Silver in 2022 Asian Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mojtaba Goleij of Iran claimed a silver medal in the 2022 Asian Games on Saturday.

He was defeated against Bahrain’s Akhmed Magomedov 6-1 in the final of the men's freestyle 97Kg.

Goleij started the campaign with a 13-7 win over Uzbekistan’s Magomed Ibragimov and then beat Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganbaatar 4-2.

He advanced to the final after beating Kazakhstan’s Alisher Yergali 3-1 in the semifinal but lost to Magomedov.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
