Iran Outlines 3 Priorities on Gaza Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran emphasized that the three overriding measures to relieve tensions in the region must be stopping the Israeli bomb attacks on the Gaza Strip, establishing a ceasefire in the enclave, and lifting the siege of the densely-populated region.

In a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva on Tuesday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said the recent developments in Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Storm operation by the Palestinian resistance groups are a reaction to the continued acts of occupation of the Zionist regime and the widespread violation of the basic rights of Palestinians, including their right to life.

“The criminal, insane and illegal actions of the Zionists against the oppressed people of Gaza will not only not help solve the problem, but will also intensify and expand the scope of conflicts to other parts of the region,” he warned.

Raisi said the Zionist regime is taking revenge for its defeat on the civilians, especially the women and children of Gaza.

Denouncing the inhuman act of the Zionists in cutting off water and electricity and preventing the entry of fuel, food, and medicine into Gaza, Raisi said, “The quick cessation of the bombing of residential areas and the killing of oppressed women and children in Gaza, as well as the immediate lifting of the blockade of this area are what we emphasize.”

The Iranian president described the actions of the Zionist regime as a clear example of war crimes against humanity and emphasized the need for all countries to play a role in dealing with these actions.

Referring to the importance of Brazil's position as the rotating president of the UN Security Council and one of the influential countries in BRICS, Raisi said, “Brazil is expected to play a role in establishing a ceasefire and stopping the attacks on Gaza, as well as being the voice of the international community to confront unilateralism in the world and the Islamic Republic of Iran is also ready to participate and cooperate in this field.”

An immediate end to the bombing and attacks on Gaza, the establishment of a ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade of Gaza are the three basic and overriding measures to control the situation in the region, Raisi added.

For his part, da Silva said he agrees with the Iranian president on the causes of the crisis in Gaza and stressed the need to immediately stop the attacks on Gaza, establish a ceasefire and reopen the crossings and the routes leading to Gaza to send humanitarian aid.

The Brazilian president described the Zionist regime’s policy of forced displacement of Gaza residents as impossible and unacceptable, stating that the Zionists attack defenseless women and children and destroy schools and hospitals under the pretext of targeting resistance groups.

He noted that the draft resolution, which includes the views and priorities emphasized by Iran, is ready for submission to the Security Council meeting.

More than 3,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since Hamas’s October 7 operation outside Gaza.

On Tuesday night, a deadly Israeli strike at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza killed at least 500, many of them women and children.
