Palestinian Journalist Confronts Misleading Western Mainstream Narratives on Gaza (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Palestinian journalist and human rights advocate Yara Eid highlighted the need for Western media to use accurate language when reporting on the situation in Gaza, emphasizing that Palestinians don't just die; they are killed.

In a recent interview with Sky News, the Palestinian journalist, who has been on the front lines of the conflict in Gaza, shares her deeply personal perspective on the situation, shedding light on the tragic reality.

"I lost more than 30 members of my immediate family, and they were civilians. They were not part of any militant group, and the majority of them were children. Seventeen of them were innocent children," she said.

Eid's emotional testimony serves as a stark reminder of the human toll of the conflict and the need for accurate reporting to convey the true nature of the situation in Gaza.

The journalist also revealed the loss of her best friend, a fellow journalist, who was killed by Israeli forces on October 7 while covering the news at the border. He was clearly marked as a journalist, wearing a press vest and helmet.

Eid emphasizes the importance of language in covering the conflict, urging journalists to use precise terminology. She states, "Palestinians don't just die; they get killed. They are subjected to ethnic cleansing and genocide over the last 75 years." Her words underscore the gravity of the situation, which has resulted from the non-stop Israeli bombardment of Palestinian residential neighborhoods in Gaza and the need for accurate reporting, especially in biased Western media reports.

Additionally, Yara Eid challenges the framing of the conflict as a "Hamas-Israel war." She argues that this perspective is misleading, as it portrays Hamas as an equal power to Israel, despite Israel’s role as an occupying force with the ability to control civilian loss of lives and the fate of Gaza's children.

Eid's call for more precise language and a more accurate portrayal of the situation highlights the importance of responsible journalism in times of humanitarian crisis, such as this one, which resulted in the deaths of over 4,380 Palestinian civilians as a result of Israeli airstrikes.
