SCO Member States to Expand Int’l Rail Lines: Iran’s Roads Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of roads and urban development said the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will develop international rail lines.

Mehrdad Bazrpash on Tuesday revealed the important agenda of the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Prime Ministers of the SCO’s member states.

The development of the rail lines on the International North-South and East-West Transport Corridors is one of the important solutions for increasing the level of economic cooperation between member states of the SCO, he said.

In this regard, Iran has many logistical and transit opportunities and also territorial advantages that can be used optimally, Bazrpash added.

He said it was one of the four proposals raised by Iran’s first Vice President Mohammad Mokhber in the virtual meeting of the prime ministers last year aiming to strengthen regional relations and create an advanced model of sustainable convergence.

He also said that the SCO’s member states are now ready to develop rail transportation and connect rail lines of the countries in order to materialize that objective.

To develop the economic relations between SCO member countries, it is necessary to complete the transit routes between the countries, facilitate the regulations and create a platform for the launch of green customs, he said.

The 22nd Meeting of the Council of Prime Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Member States will be held in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Thursday, October 26, with the participation of Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber.
