Iran Refutes G7’s Statement, Reiterates Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Program

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed the baseless accusations the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) have made against Iran at their virtual summit, highlighting Tehran’s peaceful and transparent nuclear activities in compliance with the NPT.

In comments on Thursday, Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the baseless anti-Iranian claims made in the G7’s statement.

After their virtual meeting on December 6, the G7 leaders have urged that Iran must never develop a nuclear weapon and should cease what they called its unabated escalation of its nuclear program.

“As reiterated multiple times, nuclear weapons hold no place in the defense doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Kanaani underlined.

"Iran's nuclear activities are completely transparent, peaceful, and in line with Iran's rights and obligations according to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Islamic Republic of Iran has fulfilled all its obligations, a fact repeatedly confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency,” he underlined.

Highlighting Iran's responsible role in establishing and strengthening peace, stability, and security in the region, the spokesperson said, "The claims by the Group of Seven resemble a bitter historical joke. Some members of this group have a long history of dark colonialism, designing and implementing destructive and interventionist policies, and engaging in military actions in West Asia and other regions, which are the main cause of instability and insecurity worldwide, not just in the region."

"It has repeatedly been said that resistance groups in the region make independent decisions based on their own judgment, principles, priorities, and the interests of their country and nation to confront and respond to war crimes and the genocide perpetrated by child-killer Zionist regime. They do not take orders from any external entity," Kanaani noted, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Condemning the full-scale military support of the US and the UK for the Zionist regime in its war against Palestine, Kanaani emphasized the necessity of holding these countries accountable for their involvement in the war crimes and genocide committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank.

He added that the Group of Seven cannot absolve itself from responsibility and full-fledged partnership and support for the barbaric crimes of the Zionist regime simply by prosecuting a few Zionist settlers.
