Iran Exports over 850 Tons of Medicinal Herbs in 10 Months: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of the Watershed Management and Natural Resources Organization for Pasture Lands Affairs said more than 850 tons of medicinal plants were exported from the country since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2023).

Tarahhom Behzad said 14 natural climates have been identified in the world, 11 of which exist in Iran and are the ground for the growth of various species of medicinal herbs.

About 8,600 species of the herbs have so far been identified in Iran, 2,300 of which have medicinal traits and are directly applied in medicine, health and food supplements, he added, Mehr news agency reported.

Behzad further noted that these medicinal plants are exported in bulk and unprocessed from the country.

Considering the diversified climates in the country for the growth of medicinal herbs, the opportunity should be used optimally in line with generating employment, exporting and processing these products, the official added.
