Iran, Qatar Weigh Plans to Stop Israeli War on Gaza
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The foreign ministers of Iran and Qatar discussed the latest political efforts at the cessation of the Israeli regime's ongoing war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in a telephone conversation on Thursday, discussed the mutual ties, the latest regional developments and the Israeli war on Gaza.
The two top diplomats talked about the initiatives for the potential establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza, exchange of captives, and the transfer of international humanitarian supplies to the war-stricken people of Gaza.
More than 30,000 Palestinians, mostly innocent women and children, have so far been killed as a result of Israeli military onslaught in the occupied territories.
Israel launched the full-fledged campaign on October 7, 2023, following the Al-Aqsa Storm operation, a surprise attack by Gaza's resistance movements outside Gaza.
A week-long humanitarian ceasefire in late November of last year saw an exchange of 240 Palestinian abductees held by Israeli forces with 105 captives, including 81 Israelis and 24 foreigners in Gaza, Press TV reported.
Israel believes 130 captives still remain in Gaza, while there are roughly 7,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, many of whom have been arrested without charge.
