Iraqi Resistance Leader Denounces Israeli Strikes on Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The leader of an Iraqi resistance group strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks on Syria, targeting facilities of the Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba group, emphasizing that Iraqi anti-terror fighters are in a state of war with the occupying Tel Aviv regime.
Qais al-Khaz’ali, the secretary general of Iraq’s Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement, part of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), made these remarks in an interview with al-Ahad television network on Friday.
"The Baghdad government fully supports the cause of the Palestinian nation. Some Arab regimes are not only indifferent to the (crimes) of the Zionist regime but also serve this occupying and usurping entity," he stated.
Khaz’ali added that resistance groups have taken on the role of defending Palestinians on behalf of the Iraqi people, eliminating the necessity for the government to adopt a military stance on the issue.
He stressed that ultimate victory awaits the oppressed Palestinian nation and the Axis of Resistance.
According to Syria’s Defense Ministry, the Israeli enemy launched an air attack from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting a building in the Damascus countryside around 3:20 a.m. (0020 GMT) on Thursday.
The attack caused "some material damage," as stated by the official news agency SANA, with some missiles shot down by air defense systems.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli airstrikes hit a cultural center and a training facility of the Iraqi Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba movement in the Sayyidah Zainab neighborhood in southern Damascus, injuring three members of the group.
Confirming the destruction of a cultural center in the attack, a source within the Iraqi faction, speaking anonymously, stated that al-Nujaba does not have a declared military base in Syria.
Iraq’s Islamic Resistance has been conducting numerous strikes against Israeli targets since last October, in response to the genocidal war on Gaza. They have also targeted US occupation forces in Iraq and Syria.
Throughout the Gaza war, the US, Israel’s staunchest ally, has expedited arms shipments to Israel and hindered UN resolutions calling for a ceasefire.
